What's goin on down there? Read this in today's paper. This is hard to believe and is interesting given all the posts here on the english language.
"CNN Headline News general manager Rolando Santos told The San Francisco Chronicle this week that he's looking to mix "the lingo of our people" -- words like "whack" and "ill" -- into newscasts to attract young people.
And The New York Daily News on Wednesday quoted from an e-mail sent by a network manager to his headline writers, sending them a copy of a slang dictionary so they can be "as cutting edge" as possible.
"Please use this guide to help all you homeys and honeys add a new flava to your tickers and dekkos," the message said, referring to graphics on the Headline News screen. The list of words and phrases included "fly," meaning sexually attractive."
I guess it's all about entertainment and market share..but I think these networks have a responsibility to keep up the general tone of the discussion.
I stopped watching the Communist News Network a couple of years ago in favor of more balanced and fair reporting: Fox News. I guess CNN ought to use the lingo, afterall they are "so ghetto."
The media is controlled by liberals. I think that all this freedom of speech is too much. It is being used , knowingly or carelessly, to dumb-up the American public. It is becoming impossible to raise your children the way you want them to think and act. The media has an overwhelming power to change the way we think about things. Our children have started to talk and act like ghetto kids, because MTV has lowered the standard so as to bring "conservative civilized America" to a level equal to a large population of poor, struggling, illiterate urban minorities. Watch Jenny Jones, Jerry Springer, or any low-brow talk show and you will see the youth of America being as silly as every MTV show ever broadcast. Go ahead, let your children be brainwashed, get that satellite TV dish. So they can watch teenage gays and lesbians run around in a commune-style house without parental supervision. All news networks are just as bad. They tell you how horrible Mrs. Toogood is, she beat her kid, big deal. Every kid in my neighborhood got a lickin' like that from his parents and older brothers in the sixties and seventies.None of us ran to the police because of abuse, we ran to our rooms to sulk and think about what little demons we were.Go ahead CNN dumb America down, until we all think alike, all act alike, all look alike, and all worship one Giant satellite dish for our daily propaganda.

While I agree with you on most of media issues, you are so out of line if you think Ms. Toogood had a right to beat her child like that. I suppose you think the guy in Texas was a great father for using a stun gun to punish his kid! I have no problem with spanking a kid, but both of these are prime examples of serious criminal acts. Personally, I'd like to see both of them 'Outa Here'! Neither deserves to waste perfectly good air breathing........

Agree 100%, beating a kid the way she did who still needs to sit in a childseat is bad, she totally lost her temper. The problem isn't the kid, in this case, it's the parents.
Yeah, the kiddies need more discipline, and consistency. But the parents need to get off it and quit having babies if they can't handle up on their children without bitch slapping them repeatedly right out of their childseat.
I may be disagreed with here, but it's my opinion that parents are largely responsible for the way their kids act. I know they like to blame it on the school's, or on the kid's peers..... But it's just a case of parents living in denial and not taking responsibility for their own.
As for the media, well, that's why I don't watch the news. I find the online news sources to be less (partial) than local newspapers and tv.
Ok, americanmuscle and rikfish, I see your point. The beating was out of line. The way I see it, the news should not have been involved at all.The security guard should have called the police, and detained the Toogoods. Then the police could have taken the mother to the police station with the tape. If an arraignment found her to be criminally liable, per the tape, everything should have proceeded legally from that point. But, what happened is; the kids went to foster care, The entire family was shamed, all for what may have been the only incident in an otherwise intact family. The people who released the tape are wrong. That incident is the business of the Toogoods and the courts. Remember, you are innocent until judged otherwise by a jury of you peers.I wonder what that tape cost?
GETTING BACK to the original discussion, the media are *****s for anything they can get a hold of. When the media gets a hold of something like this, they distort the facts, they offer opinions on the matter, and become a judge and jury.
The days of unslanted journalism are history; like I said before, the Media as it exists this moment,is a liberal institution, with its own agenda. An as an American with free thought, and a right to vote, I say the monopoly these news companies have, needs to be brought down now! Think your own thoughts, do what you want to, hang out with who you want to.Do you want CNN, FOX, ABC, NBC and CBS telling you how to live?
