Another tire pressure thread... :)

What tire pressures do people actually run? I have a 2005 F250, stock size tires (265/70-17E), max pressure is 80 PSI, door sticker says 75 psi cold front and rear, which would be great for maximum rated axle loads - but I run empty 90% of the time, and less than half payload the rest of the time. The truck is rough riding, I get a lot of axle hop and it just handles bad at 75 psi and empty, so I have been running 55 psi. I take tire temps from time, the tire temps are about the same as when I run with 75 psi, so I don't think I am doing anything wrong.

What do other people run with their F250's?

Well, in the interests of adding some data - I found this chart:
http://www.trucktires.com/firestone/...loadTables.pdf

It's for the Firestone tires I run on my bus, which are a leetle bit bigger - FS-560 12R-22.5 - but on the last pages there are commercial light truck tires listed in our sizes.

The load/ psi ratings for the 265/70R17 light truck tire is interesting...

PSI load (lbs)
35 1890
40 2075
45 2255
50 2470
55 2595
60 2760
65 2910
70 3005
75 3100
80 3195

Now, I figure that my truck weighs in at maybe 7200 - call it 4200 front and 3000 rear, so my tire loads are in around 2100 and 1500. I'm off the chart on the low end for the rear axle, and the front axle could run as low as 40 - 45 psi. So even at GVWR of 9800, spread equally on the tires I would be at 2450 lbs and 50 psi would be fine. I don't think I will worry about running 55 any more...

With my stock 265/70R17 121 E rated BFGs I ran 75psi on all four corners. It felt better at that point to me, but anything down into the 50s will work for an empty truck.

On my 295/70R18 125 E-rated Nittos I run 75-80psi in the front and 50psi in the back, because the fronts feel squirmy at any less, and the backs crown at any more. But I air up to 75psi on each corner for any type of towing, even if the rears are crowning.
