My ABS light is on virtually all the time now and I get a random studder at idle and at steady speed highway and at city speed, I checked and have no codes? The studder sound like a single or couple of misses at speed and more pronounced at idle at times causing it to shut down? Thanks fellas.
Not sure if this is where I post because it seems to be effecting the motor running as well 6.0?
I had some similar symptoms in the past and it turned out to be the ABS sensor on the rear diff. My symptoms were a little different in that the ABS light would come on while you were traveling at highway speeds but it never did it at idle and when it came on the truck would stutter and kick the cruise control off. If you would pull over and shut the truck off for a while the light would be off when you restarted the truck. Once you got back out on the highway for a while it would stutter, the light would come on,the cruise would cut off,and the light would stay on until you shut the truck down again, and so on. Not the exact same symptoms that you describe but close enough to make me think you could have the same problem. FWIW I don't remember how much the sensor costs because mine was replaced under warranty but it's only like a 5 min. job to replace it. Hope this helps!!

My friend you have just answered the question to a problem I have had now for 2 years! I have the exact symptoms you mentioned above. It seems to stutter ever so slightly in the beginning, you could hardly notice it unless you were used to driving it. It's only after I drove it for about 2 hours or more that it gets that mild stutter and then the ABS light goes on and kicks off the cruise control..... same deal for me as well.... I pull over, turn the truck off and start it again and the ABS light would go out and I can drive it for another hour or two before it does it again.
You know I have taken the truck to 2 different dealers on 2 separate occasions and they have not been able to duplicate the problem to fix it (because it requires driving the truck for an extended length of time). I had hoped to get this problem fixed while it was under warranty but I got sick of paying my deductible only to be told there was no problems. Why the heck doesn't this problem should up when they scan the computers?
If you have a copy of the work order for when they did this job I sure would be interested in knowing what part number they replaced.... at least I would have somewhere to start. I have been waiting a long time for a thread like this to come up on this forum!

Glad I could help!! I will look when I get home tonight and see if I can find the work order from the repair. I don't have the net at home so I'll post back tomorrow morning from here at work and let you know if I could find it. The tech that fixed it said he had seen a few of them act like that and knew what it was immediately. Ever since the sensor was replaced the problem has never returned. Talk to you in the A.M.!! EDIT: Even if I can't find the part # it's easy to find. It's a sensor near the top of the "hogs head" on your rear diff. If I remember right(my truck's not here) it's on the driver's side and it has a couple wires going to it. It is near the plug where you check your oil level in the rear end. Only takes a minute to change it out.
I can't thank you enough man.... pleeeeeease post back with that part number tomorrow! lol I can put it in myself but I wanna google the part number to see how many hundreds of $$$ I am gonna be out of pocket for this thing. I cannot believe it took 2 years to find a fix for this and that 2 dealerships could not pinpoint it!

No problem bud, that's what we're all here for!! I will do my best to find the part # but relax,I don't think that sensor would be too expensive but you never know these days. I will def. post back in the A.M.
I had similar issues. I pulled the sensor, cleaned it, reinstalled it. The ABS woes went away. Might try that first before running out and replacing the part.

What did you clean it with, brake cleaner? I am headed out camping on Thursday and will be looking into this as soon as I get back.
Paper towels... Wiped it clean, reinstall. Worked for me.
I think I might take a peek tomorrow am and if it looks like a nice quick easy job I'll take it off and give it a clean. This trip would be a good test to see if it works right..... hopefully I don't make it worse!
Have had to do that every so often on my 96, with exception to the stumble it kicks the cruise out too. Put a healthy magnet on the rear cover when I serviced the diff (on the inside), hopefully being a bigger magnet will catch the metal so the speed sensor doesn't. . Has worked for 50K so far.
