Sorry I couldnt get back sooner, 1st, those grounds are a PITA to get to. 2nd the battery connect cable has god continuity and resistance. I checked alternator at the alternator 13.6 then at the batteries12.6 on drivers side and 12.5 on pass side. Took alternator off had checked at oriellys 14.5 low side and 16.1 high side. As berick mentions could alternator be weak on the truck but test fine?? Any help appreciated, I just dont get why im not getting 14+ with truck running.
If your batteries are full up you are not going to get the 14 volts. Do you have a amp guage that you can use? If so here are some Ford specs on the alt:
@Idle 13.7 volts @60 amps
@2000 rpm under a load: 13.4 volts@90 amps
This is where you should be give or take of coarse.
For whatever reason the alts in these trucks stay in the 13+volt range it will hit 14volts if your batteries are down enough.
