Getting ready to pull my carpet to replace, knocking on wood I only find minimal rust. My question is what everyone thinks of the products like acoustishield and other sound dampener/heat shields that would be put down before the carpet. Really like the acoustishield kits because they are already a perfect fit (so they say). Just wonder if this stuff is worth it
As a preventative measure, I would recommend coating the floor with POR-15 or Eastwood Rust Encapsulator even if there is no rust. Then apply Fatmat, Acoustishield, or equivalent product.... Sound Deadener Products FatMat Dynamat Xtreme Alternative
Sounds good. I was referring to rustoleum's rust stop/converter paint products, but the POR and R.E. stuff sounds good. Do you have an opinion on the shield products? I'm leaning towards acoustishield because it is precut and includes the sound dampener layer and a heat shield layer. Just wanted to get some opinions on this before I spend $165
Acoustishield is a foil-faced fiber layer product - looks shredded cotton. Articles I have read still recommend a sound deadener like Dynamat or Fat Mat under it.
Ah.. rust converters... rust needs an electrolyte (moisture) and oxygen to break down metal to its natural form - iron oxide. Remove one of them and corrosion will cease. That's what POR/R.E. will do - seal out both moisture and oxygen.
The more you can do to stop rust in its tracks the better. Go with whatever you are comfortable with... I guess it comes to either doing it minimally or going for overkill. ... go for the latter for peace of mind.
I agree with HIO Silver about the use of other products. I used a zillamat product as an alternative to the Dynamat. Here is another post that covers your topic that might be helpful: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...dampening.html
For sound deadening. Fat mat or edead is what I use. Dynamat is thicker, but too me overpriced. Fat mat or the alternatives you can double if you wanted and still come out cheaper than dynamat.
On top of that use some sort of jute or jute foil backed mat. This will add a little padding under your carpet and help with heat/sound. Use spray adhesive for that
