Leaf spring interchange?

Hey guys. I have 3 leaf springs on the rear of my 89 f150. It is very soft on the rear end needless to say. My buddy wrecked is 90 f250 and it has 7 leaf springs on it. He torched the brackets so it's just the springs, will they interchange? I use my truck to work. It hauls mowing equipment and cut fire wood and the occasional junk cAr.

The 89 F150 should have 2.5" wide springs unless it's a 4x4 which will have 3". The 90 F250 should be 3" in width. Change the hangars & you could use them if your's is not a 4x4.

Mine is a 4x4. this is good news. I will probably change the shocks up front too. I put new rear shocks on it. It has the quad shock set up on the front. Hopefully it will set level and ride good

I'll probably eventually go to the F250 rears also but I don't need any 7 leaf springs. He must have had a heavy Duty F250 or something.

He said there were add a leafs. The truck had a steel flat bed on it so the needed to be more sturdy. I have been having trouble finding a good set in a junk yard. They are all either twisted or rusted all to peices. And it would help out in my firewood hauling. I want to be safe. I see idiots all the time loading their poor trucks down to where the bed rubs the tires and they have no control of their rigs. I can't stand that. But the sad part is, I live in the meth capitol of the united states so you can't expect a very good quality of people. . I just can't afford to move. My wife and I are one of the few families in this town that both work full time jobs, pay our bills, help with charities, do not use drugs, and are not on food stamps with 15 kids. One day we willl be able to live in a nice respectable town.

That should do it for sure. Just be careful overloading your brakes.

Sounds like a nice 'hood you live in. Hopefully we'll see some CHANGE and you'll be able to improve your surroundings.

they'll work great.just don;t use all 7 leafs.it will be over kill for the f150.as is with just the factory 4 + that bottom flat one she'll lift the rear right up several inches but she'll carry a mean load.
so just get new center bolts and remove 2 leafs.she'll carry a great load of firewood but still ride very well.
all that floating front end foolishness will be a thing of the past when hauling.you'll love it.
i swapped the f250HD/f350 leaf pack (factory mains,no extra's) in my old '96 4wd and it transformed the truck.i also added 1 aux spring too, which was not needed.
if i had to do it again,i would have removed one main from the factory f250/350 set and still added the aux.the ride would have been even better, and i would have actually used the aux more often.
with just the factory mains,it's very easy to set a ton to a ton and a half on the f150 before she looks loaded (which i did regularly for years lol) so be careful.i had the manual,so downshifting to help her stop was a breeze.with an auto, you'd want to look into fabbing a hydrooboost brake setup for it....or just be smart and bu a larger truck before getting too carried away.......but you know how it goes, sometimes ya got to make due with what ya have for a while.
them 150's can work and work hard.those who underestimate them, haven't worked 'em.just be careful.

Well I have put some improvements into my brake system too. And the engine and tranny. I have the 4.9 and it's had the head porter and polished, good cam, good pistons, bigger injectors, cold air intake, no cat, 3 inch pipe into true duals with 40 series flowmaster, it has a 4 speed and I put about 800 in the clutch. Haha. I got the best towing clutch system summitt offered. It has Dana 44s under it with 4.10 gears and Detroit lockers front and rear. I put all stainless brake lines and fuel lines on it,vented rotors, new calipers, ceramic pads and shoes, and new drums and springs, also, the brake controller has a line that goes straight to the master cylinder. It has a 4 core radiator with an auxiliary fan that cools the intake. I have never seen a fan like that before but I was told that's what it was for.

Hello, I have a 94 f150 and I wanted to lower the rear to match the front, saying that I already need new leaf springs I have 4/1 springs. I was thinking of going 3/1. Question is would that cause any problem going to the 3/1 springs with lowering shackles ?
And what type of stocks would I need ?
Any thoughts or help greatly appreciated.

Thing with springs is, they're generally all made to place the truck at roughly the same unloaded ride height. If the leaf pack is softer it has more arch built into it so it settles at the same position as a stiffer and flatter leaf pack.

Point is I doubt that by getting softer springs you'll drop the rear much if at all. Even less do if you're comparing to factory leaves that are already tired and saggy.

Get your softer leaf packs for more comfortable ride unloaded, then run longer shackles to get the drop you're after.

For shocks, if your truck is 4x4 you could try a set meant for a 2wd truck as those typically ride about 2" lower than a 4x4 and I think that's about where you're wanting to be be height-wisd after all is said and done?

Also FYI this is a hella ancient thread you resurrected 😂
