It's been a while since I have posted anything. I've only added one picture to my album...the gauges. All of my recent progress isn't all that visible. Here's what I've been working on:
1. Completed installation of the Painless wiring harness...it went in really well. The manual that came with it provided enough schematic data and wire trace information so that everything works like a champ!! The cool part is that the turn signals mapped perfectly to the ididit column. This was a marathon job....even a basic wiring harness takes a while to put in!!! The only hang-up that I had was that I had to run a seperate ground to the headlights...with the fiberglass fenders, and powder coating on all of the grill parts, I wasn't getting a good ground at the headlights.
2. Installed the electric cooling fan (sorry...no pic yet). This is thermostatically operated. I tested it out yesterday while we were having a 100 degree plus day. The fan kicks on at 185 degrees on the gauge & the temp drops back to 180 with the fan on. I think it'll be OK!!
3. I went to the DMV and took the truck off of non-op status, so I'm licensed now!
4. I had to swap the position of the headlight switch with the choke....there was a sheet metal structure behind the dash that hit the aftermarket headlight switch. I tried to find a more compact switch, but that didn't work either.
5. I took a road test...the odometer show zero...it now has 6 miles on it...no leaks, no overheating.
The next steps are windshield wipers, interior, door seals, and I have to replace the side windows.
When I first started up the engine for the break in run I didn't have the fan installed. I kept an eye on the temp gauge. When it started heating up, I put a box fan on the front bumper....that was enough air flow to bring the temp back down to the thermostat temp...185 degrees.
I think that aluminum radiator is really going to work well.
