Remote Start Suggestions

Want/Need a remote start to let the truck idle a few minutes each morning while I'm getting dressed

Good ones?
Bad ones?

I found a Viper 5101 I'm interested in. Just don't know enough to make an educated PSD purchase. Had a Code Alarm on my Durango that was pretty nice

Thanks,
Ty

Heres my suggestion.
Walk outside and start the truck, then go in and get dressed.

I installed an Auto Page alarm remote start. The first week I got the truck. That's was 6 years and 2 months ago. Still works flawlessly. Had it professionally installed. All connections soldered, not just tapped. Worth the money.

I had a Python alarm/remote start does a Ton of stuff also had it installed

The Beauty of it is when its started someone tries to take off it KILLS itself

works great I leave it run at the gas staion and stuff for the A/C with my Dogs although they would have to be stupid to jump in there with them Dogs

Python and Viper all them are made from a Company Called Directed Electronics there all really good

Mine has the keychain pager that beeps and Vibrates when alarm goes off tells me when truck running also tells me why the alarm went off it does a Ton of stuff

They also have them now you can access on a Smart Phone just depends how much you want to spend

Google Directed Electronics

and have someone install it

I have a Viper as well and very happy with it. I have a Smart Start feature in mine as well. I can do everything from my cell phone. Just pick a shop that's familiar with diesels. I will never own another truck without a remote start.

I work 16+ hour days. Hell, today is my first day off in 3 weeks

When I'm getting dressed to leave, it's litterally 5 minutes til I'm out the door. I'm trying to avoid just "hopping in and going" since it's not really ideal for a diesel

Especially in winter if you live in a Cold area nice to walk out to a Truck with windows Defrosted and cab starting to warm up

I have wondered about if I could have the alarm/remote start if I could have it Trigger the Seat Warmer too Although it seems like they wont get warm till your in the seat

I Love Mine

Any good remote starts that just do the start function or do you have to buy the whole alarm kit and everything?

And also a while ago I thought I saw a similar product that you could turn the key off jump out lock the truck etc. and it would cool off for a few minutes and then shut itself off. Is that a real thing or did I imagine that? lol

Yes to BOTH

You can just get a Remote Start only

But for the Cool down Timer you probably would need an alarm

Maybe you could just find a Turbo CoolDown timer only IDK

My Remote Start/Alarm does ALL Of this^^^^ and lots more

I can Pull the key it will stay running and I can Lock it up walk away

It will Also Turn Alarm on if I Forget

Most auto insurance companies will also Lower your Rates for having an alarm especialy when it will automatic Turn its self on

Is there anything to watch out for regarding a remote start and the diesel?

Not really, just make sure the installer is reputable and is familiar with them on diesels(to delay start up).

I know you didn't ask, but just thought I'd mention that unless you are very experienced with wiring, its worth every penny to pay someone to do this job. My friend installed his own and it was a nightmare.

He went with one of the cheaper brands and it still works fine. I was really surprised at the range of the remote.
