That looks like some nice stuff, I'll have to look at it some more when I'm more awake. If I could find a rebuilder that would save a couple of grand, a least!
Any idea Mike why my TC is not locking until I shift into 4th?
Been awhile since I bought a magizine, forgot they came out a month early.
I wish I were more help with your tc Glenn, however I'm not. However, I know he's busy but if you do get even somewhat close to my area and are having trouble, let me know. He is southwest of sioux falls. IIRC he told me another 200 bucks if a guy drove in. Hopefully you don't need help, but just putting that out there for you. I'll do what I can to help if I can/need bud!
Thanks a lot Darin, I don't think I'll have problems but you never know. Today I'll go 200 miles down to Detroit area for a quick stay and then to Omaha to be there for #3 grandbaby due the 24th. Sounds like I would be close at that time but I don't want to mess with it, unless I have to, until I'm back in AZ.
Are you going to supply him with racerX or something like Mike listed or does he use his own supply of parts?
You should really let the TC unlock when it shifts from 3rd to 4th, its a pain when your doing it manually. I have the LED's on mine and thats what it does between every gear. I used to lock mine in 3rd and leave it until one day we turned a corner, put my foot in it and we went nowhere.....
Diesel Rod
I missed your post here Rod. Looks like shifting into 4th with the TC locked is a harsh one. When under a load and heavy throttle I can't see letting it go from 35mph in 3rd to about 55mph in 3rd with the TC unlocked. I'm no trans guy by any means but I would think letting it stay unlocked that long isn't any good. I've been locking it but will try what your saying to give the flywheel less stress. Yes, it does sound like a pain. Why wasn't your TC not locking on its own?

Not sure yet Glenn. I think I'll probably let him use what he normally uses for the heavy duty build, as that is what he is familiar with. I told him I had a racer x vb, and loved how it shifted now. He wants to talk more to me when I get ready to pull it, may use that again.
I kept getting that damn 0344 code again too. I changed to my new spare IH cps, and the next time I drove it it bucked real hard one time. I pulled the loom off of the wires leading to the cps and the brown wire had some chafing on it so I replaced them all from the plug to the main harness. Haven't driven it hardly at all since then so can't tell you for sure if its fixed, just thought I'd pass that on.
Mine was shifting fine on its own, I just liked to make some smoke and locking it early in 3rd and flooring it made some good smoke. and like the moron I was I coasted to a stop and shut the truck off not knowing what happened when it broke. well when the flex plate isn't connected to the crackshaft you can't start your engine....So I got towed home 10 miles with no brakes or power steering.
The '96 has a late 94 or early 95 motor and those were bad for cracking flex plates, the 96-97 motors supposedly had thicker ones.
Glenn, I cant help you in anyway, but Im with you and wish you good luck.
Thanks Jose, I should probably check my wiring,

Good to know Rod that the flex plate is stronger on mine. Sounds like you were having some fun. I mean why not, we build them, we can wreak them with nobody to blame except our selves, LOL.
Not that I know of Rock. All new disk brakes, lines and everything checked two summers ago on the 5er. My cruise works good but I'll sure check them along with the brake pedal switch. That's what is weird about 4th gear, no TC unlocks there!
You had this rebuilt before?
If so was the flex plate changed out
And wasn't it about a yr ago you posted about some trouble with the TC and your ground lock. I think you and (departed) Bill aka Madvan were discussing that.
Ya, I've had it rebuilt twice before and I don't know if the flex plate was changed out? It was about three years ago, in 4th with the TC locked, the trans started slipping. That was a one time deal and has never happened again. No circuit tie ins on the brake pwr either.
Nothing intermition, this is a constant no lock situation in 1, 2, & 3 and always locked when it gets into 4th. When in 4th I have flipped my lock switch on several times just to satisfy myself that its locked.
