yeah i bought these glow gauges of the net... and i have them in.. now i need to wire them into one of the leads on the headlight switch or something easier and i need to find a ground... check out the sig for the truck..
i dont remember off the top of my head. but. the 2 wires go into a transformer, and then to a color\dimmer switch and then down 3 branch offs to connect to the gauges...
ok ok i found the box...and it doesnt say jack ****... except electroluminescent lamp... all over the box.. thats it.. except for made in tiawan i got them from ebay.. through a company called procarparts.. i have the link..http://procarparts.com/store/display...F150WOTACH_REV it makes me mad because i go to school for electrical, and a 2 wire hook up should be mad easy but seriously... the red wire has a little fuse thing i have no clue what it is rated for... cant be more than 5 amps. and then there is a red and black wire that has a eye terminal\connector to be hooked into a screwed in ground.. they both are fed into a 1 1\2 by 1 1\2 transformer... that head out into a little thing that has a dimmer rotary switch and a blue\green toggle switch.. which then goes on a wire with 4 connectors that plug into each of the gauge peices... i mean its not that hard.. i just need to know what wires do what on the headlight switch connector... the truck is a 1992 F-150 custom/300 I-6, 5 sp. mil1ion im countin on you man
I've read up a little on Electro-lumenessant lighting and I'll try to help. The first thing I would do is to contact the manufacturer for installation instructions but if you can't go that route all I can say is EL lighting takes a high voltage to run, wich is why you have a transformer conected to your wiring. connect your ground wire, and hook up your hot wire to the switched hot on the light switch. Find it with a wire tester its the one thats hot when your switch is pulled out and cold when switch is in. That should be it. your transformer will up teh 12v hot to the proper voltage to run the EL lights. the attached rotary switch should be your new dimmer and I have no Idea what the toggle switch is for, you'll have to play with it and find out. or like I said earlier call the manufacturer. some of these kits come with multi color options and I guess the toggle could be for that. hope that helps a little
I got the exact same kit. One is ground, the none fuse wire. Now heres an easy way to hit the instrument circuit. Fuse pos number 10 (4 amp) controls the light intensity of the guages. Pull the fuse and strip about 1/2 inch from the wire and fold it over the spade end of the fuse and reinstall. Since the wire is very thin it will not stress out the fuse holder contacts. Easier than splicing. This thing draws hardly any thing at all. Now heres what I don't like. They warp, bad. Oil pres guage is stuck now, volt meter sticks too. But I like it a lot better than stock for looks, and its freakin BRIGHT too.
I have a panel full of switches for lights and it's got its own ground running from the let side of the dash near the mount for the E-brake. So I just tapped into that. But being a student spark chaser you should know where to hit a ground.
Hey, dont sweat it...I have these exact lights on my 90. However the dash is way different I think you can probably do the same thing as I did. However, I can't remember exactly what I did so I will have to go and look today and repost. I believe I just tapped into the headlight fuse though.
