2011 6.7 prgrammer
I just lifted my truck and put some 35's on it. not much bigger than factory and I am already seeing a larger than expected drop in mileage. I had a friend with the same truck as mine running 37's and getting 27 miles a gallon. however he had his chipped. I dont know what kind of chip he had and I now live two states away. My question is what programmers are out there to help with mileage that are good. I dont care about HP or Torque, just helping out my mileage a little bit. Its a 2011 f250 crew with the 6.7. I dont know too much about them to be honest I never worried about it with my other trucks but I have become spoiled getting used to seeing 18.5 average.
thanks
RLTW!
And secondly, I'm pretty confident that either your friend is grossly exaggerating or he simply doesn't know how to calculate fuel economy. 27 MPG with a lifted truck on 37" tires just isn't possible, and if it were believe me everyone would be doing it. When you lift a truck you increase wind resistance, and those large tires frequently increase rolling resistance. A decrease in efficiency all around, and tuning can only hope to somewhat minimize this effect.
I, like a lot of people, wanted to get better fuel economy and get rid of the DEF refills. I put an S&B cold air intake on it in hopes of preserving the warranty and that got me about a .5 mpg increase. Not much considering the $$$ I spent. The stock intake is pretty good, if I had it to do over again, I'd probably just buy a better filter.
The big increase came when I deleted the DPF (diesel particulate filter) and everything associated with it. For off road use only of course. I bought the H&S programmer and flo-pro delete pipe. I tried all power settings and I get the best MPG on the "HOT" setting. I can get up to 21 mpg if I run 65 but who does that? I'm still 80% hwy miles and I'm getting an average of 19 MPG cruising between 70 & 75 mph all the time. This is with the stock tires. I would presume a lift and bigger tires would make me sacrifice between 2 & 5 mpg depending on tire size and lift.
The "HOT" tune will make you want to treat it like a sports car but you really can't do that if you want longevity. You can get on it now and then but need to use it for economy only if you can help it. Also, I never tow with the hot tune. I tune it down to mild and everything runs great.
This is brutal honesty. No BS here.
I appreciate the replies, I thought he might be exageratting which is why I posted on here. I am realistic and I knew I couldnt expect 27, there are a few others posting on here that they were getting tweny something I am going to assume those were two wheel drives. I didnt go crazy with my truck I gave it six inches of lift but just went with 35's which is only about an inch and half over stock. I havent had it on there but a few days but I am noticing a little decline, I havent reset the fuel mileage yet though, I am kind of scared to, lol. But I am thinking I lost about 3-4 MPG. If I could get that back I would be happy. but again I dont want to do anything that will void warranty. I only have 20,000 on the truck so I have a ways to go before I do anything too crazy with it. what kind of drop in airfilter is good I have heard some bad things about the K&N drop in for these trucks. anyways keep the advice coming I am thick skinned it isnt going to bother me. Oh yeah I lifted it and put on more aggressive tires because I use this truck in the woods a lot and in open fields a lot, was getting sick of spinning stock tires in the mud and bottoming out. it was for function. now the iron cross bumpers were for looks besides the whinch mount. if someone can talk me through how to post a pic I will throw one up here.
I tuned/deleted it at 4000 miles. Who needs a warranty....
