Another little mod i did last night:

I ran a jumper between the tail light and parking light circuits on my headlight switch so the parking lights stay on with the headlights, I think it just looks better that way, cant say theres any benefit to doing this.

Hmmm.. that poses an interesting question. So on the 64-65-66 beds was the line manufactured lower in the design? Or how did that work? I was under the assumption the beds stayed the same and were just mounted differently. Would be cool to find out the right answer on that one. The previous years before 62 don't line up or do they?

From 64 to 66 most trucks had a styleside bed that matched the cab (look at JetCopterPilot's truck for what im calling a matching bed). A handful of the 4x4s came with wrong beds like my truck has. You should be able to simply find a matching styleside bed that would match the cab without having to worry about it being a wrong bed.

As far as i know all "wrong beds" that came on slicks were the same with the exception of shortbeds v long beds.

What is it exactly and specifically that causes that line so far off?

With "wrong beds" like ours it's simply the fact that the beds were built for a totally different style of truck: the so called orphans or fridges, the 57-60 body style. The style side beds used on the 64 and later trucks are built to match our cabs so there are no alignment issues.

I have a 63 with the wrong bed. I want to swap it for the 66 so the lines match. Will the fit? I know the cabs is different since mine has a built in step when you open the door and the 64-66 is smooth.

Can I retro fit the 64-66 bed on my mismatched 63 shortbed? I can't find any posts about it. The cab is different slightly since mine has a step built in to the door frame when you open the door and the 64 is smooth floor pan. But did the frame change?

The 64 also has the step. 65-66 were smooth as you say. My 64 long bed has the correct bed. Ford actually started putting them on the 64's so I don't see any reason it won't fit your truck. Hopefully you have a source for purchasing a short bed.
