I have interstates in my truck, duralast golds in the Ex and wifes car. Been having issues with the ex, not sure if it's batteries or not. I've heard good things about optimas too.
Advance Auto has a great return policy. I bought a batt and my truck fried it so I took it back and got a another one and truck fried that one so I took it back got another one and truck fried that one. This all happened in a 2 week span. The fourth time they said something is wrong with my truck. So I brought my alternator in to get bench checked which I just bought from them when I bought the first batt and had it benched checked good at the store before I walked out. Took it back and it checked bad. So after the forth batt they gave me a replacement and said dont come back. I was laughing as I walked out the door.

I've never had good luck with Interstate batteries and I went through three different Optimas in the Excursion before finally getting a good one. (Still in there now.)
BUT, if I had to recommend one, it would be either Wal-Mart's or Auto Zone's simply because of the number of those stores that exist. If something goes wrong with your battery, you can find one of them in almost any town that you are in. I tend to lean toward Auto Zone because of their deal they have of making 5 $20 purchases and you get $20 your next purchase.
X2 (or 3 or 4) on walmart/autozone. I bought one pair of batts 8yrs ago for the dually and one set for the X 5yrs ago. (1) pair is autozone and the other is walmart. They seem to fail just before the 3yr free replacement.
When you have a batt issue, go to a walmart without a tire center - no questions asked. The service center will want to charge your batteries before diagnosing them. I've gotten grief about a 'good' battery that was weak, but ultimately I was able to explain to the nice girl behind the counter my big diesel engine NEEDS (2) strong battery to start in cold weather...
I totally agree with what these guys have said about battery avaliabillity. When I bought 2 interstate batteries ($300) for my Ex, I had the guy at the store give me a list of Interstate dealers in my driving area (Fl to WV) just incase I had battery issues while traveling. I bought the best battery they had because starting the 7.3 takes alot of CC amps and also every time you open the door it seems like 20 lights come on with my LTD model.
Sams Club or Costco there is a big battery discussion on here somewhere about batteries. Either way its a crap shoot, you never know if your going to get a good one or not.
I got the Motorcraft batteries from my local Ford dealer - biggest CCA I could get. Free installation and a $30 rebate on each one. You can find the rebate coupon on Fords owner site - may still be good.
They also come with a lifetime replacement option.
Couldn't beat that...but will have to see how they do this winter.
