I have a un-opened quart size bottle of a sipping Whiskey called "Centennial" that was made in 1957 & given to me as a christmas gift in 1971.
That makes it 46 years old.
I also have a un-tapped bottle of Cognac from the 50's.
Does anyone have any ideas about what to do with these Liquid Gems?

I don't know where you visiting, but stop by here in Augusta, Georgia we got plenty of it...
Of course, a true blue suthern gentlemen in the know much prefers the home grown Makers Mark or very least Jack red or black!
Come think, I haven't had a taste of any of it for quite awhile so thanks very much for your posting. Maybe we can sit and discuss this over a shot glass one lazy afternoon!

I am so sorry, I forgot myself! Now I remember why it's been so long since I've had a glass...
Sort of long story but some years back there was this brit, uh, lady who on a long night with nothing better was downing shots with me ... something to do with quarters too... needless to say she wasn't the one that hit the deck...

Being a Military Man, I have drank lots, I mean lots of whiskey. My Favorites would be:
Bacardi 151
Bacardi Gold
Jack (all forms)
Jim
Segrams 7
Crown Royal
Hennesy
E&J
Jose
Mezcal
I prefer then straight, but mix with some sort of soad most of the time. I fly alot, so I get the free drinks also. I tried scotch a couple of times, but could not get the taste of it.
IMHO any whiskey is a good whiskey, it just depends on the results you are going for. Either it be Social Drinking, or Drinking until you cant walk. I would have to say I am guilty of the later more than once.

I just had to add this story :
Back in '70's my dad was the Post Sgt. Major for one of our countries fine bases. As such, one of his official /unofficial duties involved funding a club of Sr. NCOs , and he was getting ****** at the increasing call for top line whiskey and complaints about not enough of it.
He told me that after the first drink straight there wasn't a one of them that could tell the difference in call brand vs less expensive hootch.
I found that curious, especially since he kept some expensive stuff for special occasions, but then he was like that and I knew to shut up and let him have his room.
Well we got to the club, rare that I was tagging along. Roomful of men drinking their favorite, when my dad stands up to face the room and clinks his glass. Gentlemen, just wanted to ask if everyone was happy with their service ... affirmative responses... all happy... and did everyone get what they wanted tonight? Plenty of availability...? Very enthusiastic all arounds...
Well you expletives, just wanted to let you know that tonight I spent an hour pouring house brand into all the fine bottles and not one of you could tell the difference!!
Well, there were plenty embarassed and ******, I didn't see any except the few that were in on it with him who thought it funny, but as usual, my dad wasn't phased a bit...
Now, this is just a story, albight a true one... though I still believe there are those with sufficiently developed palates to recognize the taste of an exquisitely distilled whiskey, there probably are many more who can't.
