I just got an Airco compressor, dryer, orfice for my '89. Flush, replace seals, and evacuate. Runs nice and cold. Problem is clutch sometimes slips a little or even real bad. Pressures are reasonable. Other thing I am not happy about was while pulling a vacuum I had to find a sweet spot by rotating the shaft or I couldn't get good vacuum, 28.5. Airco may not have anybody technical. One year warranty though. Help
If your clutch is slipping I would suspect that you are running a super high discharge pressure. This could be caused by an overcharge, air in the system or a blocked condenser (air or refrigerant side). It could also be caused by low voltage to the clutch.
high side at idle never got above 165 LBS. Voltage to the conpressor is 12.4V. Condenser and Evap. flushed with little resistance on the condenser and none on the Evap.
What about clutch shims, add or remove? I really hate to evac the system and not have AC for 2-3 weeks. Haven't had it since last August so I got spoiled in 2 days.
There are shims behind the hub on both the FS-6 and the 6E171. I don't know witch one you have. The clearance between the hub and the pulley should be .021" to .036". If yours exceeds that I would remove a shim.
