98 F150, 2wd, 4R70W, 4.6, 250,000 miles, maintenance is up to date. Here's the deal, lately when I go to accelerate, there is no power whatsoever. When downshifting, from OD-3, 3-2, 2-1, the RPM's go up, but there is no acceleration as there should be. It gradually picks up speed, but nowhere near like it did a week ago. I guess the best way to describe it is it feels like there's a heavy trailer attached to the truck. Last trans flush was at 200k. And yes, I do realize this is a tiny, high mileage motor pushing a 3k lb vehicle. I can't even safely accelerate to merge with highway traffic its that slow. Trans slip? worn out trans? idk... help me... please :P
I'm sure you thought of it but double check your trans. fluid. My 01 does the same thing when it gets low. Also have you thought about having the exhaust flow checked, catalytic converter may be getting clogged.
Thank you and yes, I did think of that. I can't believe I forgot to mention fluid. I checked it last night and it's bright red, smells like it came right out of the bottle. If anything, fluid might be a lil high. It just started in the last 2 days, all of a sudden, nothing changed except I rotated the tires.
Is it possible solonoid? Im electrically ignorant but it has been raining HEAVILY the past two days. Converter lockup, sensor issues?? Im just stabbing in the dark here.
Has the OD OFF light flashed? Does the light work?
With the truck stopped, in drive, press the brake as hard as you can and floor the go pedal. Hold it for NO MORE THAN 5 SECONDS. That part is important, so I'll repeat it. DO NOT HOLD THE GO PEDAL DOWN FOR MORE THAN 5 SECONDS!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you for stopping in sir! The OD light works, has not flashed. I did as you said and the tires broke loose about 22/2400 RPM. Had the same issue today when I first started driving it, but it got better as the day continued. IT's still not where it feels like it should be. Now that is perception, not actual fact. Doing a manual downshift into 2nd, there was no noticeable increase of torque or power anywhere in the powerband. That's all I can remember off the top of my head right now.
