egr delete

My truck is from California and it has an egr. I've heard a lot of back and forth about it and was wondering if anyone on here has deleted theirs. Its the next item to delete.

There's really no reason to do away with it in terms of performance. If it was giving you problems and you didn't have the money to fix it right, AND already had a tuner, then I can understand.

You might be causing yourself more grief over the long-term because the truck is supposed to have it, and whatever state emissions inspections you have might require it to be there - not to mention State Troopers who just want to give you a hard time

Oh I don't have to worry about them anymore kre. Truck is from there and it will never return. Mainly I want to clean up the engine bay. And I don't think it helps the intake charge from the looks of it. But I'd like to hear why it doesn't help from a performance standpoint. I'm not being facetious at all my good man. Just wanting to learn me something lol

Usually, and I say "usually" with a big question mark after it, the EGR isn't doing anything at wide-open-throttle. Part throttle, yes, it's usually open. However, it usually helps keep the engine from pinging, and can help gas mileage.

If you really want to rip it off, get a PCM from non-EGR, OBD-I V10, and bolt it in. I don't see why a Federal calibration PCM from the same year vehicle wouldn't work. It would just not ever care about the EGR, or the third O2 sensor (I'm assuming you have one of those too).

Then, get a tuner from Mike @ 5-star and go from there

I'm going to ask Mike to chime in on this thread and see if he has any experience with EGR-delete tunes - if that's even possible.

EGR can be your friend some times too , leaving egr on engine can help with economy by reducing pumping loses and it can reduce cylinder temps. Since the factory programming runs some high cylinder temps . Newer engines have passive EGR systems , aka variable cams create an passive EGR effect.

Sweet! I think the man replied. Economy is the last thing on my mind with this a build. But I see what you mean now. We'll see if my headers have the provision for it. Anywho. Mike, I plan on running a blower here in the late future. Have you written tunes for said setup?
