Could someone help me!!
okay so ive been noticing this now on my truck i just did the 2nd oil change on my truck, and well i know one quart goes to the filter when you start it up but when i turn it off and check the level its not at the Max. line its about half way there and when i drained my oil i only got bout 4 and 1/2 quarts out of it and i believe our motors take 6 qts right? It doesnt seem to burn oil and im sure it doesnt leak it. im stooped dont know what it is truck runs just fine.

I have owned 3 trucks with this engine and have found that when filled, the dip stick did not reflect the 6 quarts as being full. Next time you change the oil, park on even surface and make sure all oil has drained. I usually start with a warm engine, pull the drain plug and then grease the front end and u-joints and check tire air pressure. That gives plenty of time. Next remove the oil filter and replace with a new one with anti-drain back check valve [i.e. Motorcraft FL-1A]. Pour in 5 quarts of oil [let the oil containers drain well] and start the engine. Let it idle a few moments and check for leakage at the drain plug and filter. Shut the engine off and wait a few minutes to allow the oil to drain into the oil pan. Now, remove the dip stick and on the back side, using a very clean file, scratch a line where the true 5 quarts of oil leaves its mark. This will now be your truck's true "1 quart low" mark. BE SURE TO WIPE THE DIP STICK WELL, SO NO METAL FILINGS GET INTO THE ENGINE! Next, add the 6th quart and repeat the above process, marking the true "full" line on the back of the dip stick.
Now you have a calibrated dip stick.

All 300 six cylinders have a capacity of 6 quarts oil which includes that held by the standard oil filter.
