oil change question

oil change question
ok yesterday i had my oil and filter changed,
owners manual calls for 6 qts.of oil,
now i have no leaks,or no smoking,
i watched as they put the oil and filter on
they started the truck checked for leaks none
turned off the truck let it sit for a minute
check the oil it was in thew safe range
but not to max, drove the truck home
about 15 miles check for leaks none
check the oil still seating in safe zone
but not at max. got up this am didn't
start the truck just check the oil
still in safe but not at max. is there
a possiblity that this 98 4.6 uses
6 1/2 qts on an oil change.

thanks, just the first car or truck i ever owned
when you fill to factory spec. it doesn't show
like fatory spec.
