Hi,
My friend here in Salt Lake has been rebuilding flatheads for a long time and is very reasonable with prices. check around for new rebuilt engines and then call him, I'll bet he's still a better price even with shipping it to you.
I know that right now he has a 49-53 rebuilt engine for under 3k outright, I'm sure he has a 47 block or two laying around for a core to start with?
He has shipped all over the country and get great rates with his shipping accounts.
Give him a call Roger 801-560-5466
Tell him Josh sent ya.
If you can put the engines you have on a pallet (pallets) and deliver to a shipping center or ?? I'm sure Roger would take them on trade and or core's (if not cracked) and still probably save you some more money?
Getting a stuck engine apart is no treat, but if the blocks are solid (have not been left with plain water in them to freeze) they are very rebuildable. Before you buy a pig in a poke, rule out using parts from the 4 you have to make (at least) one good one.
Stuck Engines are usually the piston rings rusted to the cylinder wall.. Destroy piston with 1 inch steel bar and short handle sledge hammering at top and bottom away from the connecting rod..Once the pistons are shattered yer good to go on taking the rest apart and you were gonna bore the cylinders and fit new pistons anyhow..I watched the local maching shop doing this to the 239 from my 55 F250 as it had sat for 15 years after blowing the headgaskets with cylinders full of water ..
You've gotten some good suggestions already, the only thing that I would add is that it is much harder to find a good block (no cracks) than it is to find an engine that is free. I would use what you have, tear them down and build one from the best of the parts.

Another vote for advice already given. Unless you find someone to guarantee an engine to be rebuildable, it is a crapshoot. Tear into the other engines and check them out. Start by pulling the heads. Clean the deck really well. Most serious cracks (valves to cylinders) are easily seen. If that checks out, and the cylinders feel good, no rough pitting, pull the oil pan and check the bottom end.
You might be more specific as to which engine you're actually looking for. Original 1947 59A? Most of these guys are playing with the later 8BA "flatheads" I've seen dozens of those old 59A blocks scrapped when everyone wanted to upgrade to the later series. Yeah, I would examine what I had as recommended.
