I used to keep mine there on my '58. I never had the proper carrier. It was held in by the J-bolt from the under truck carrier which hooked nicely behind the lip of the bed. Probably not as secure as it should have been but it was like that for years.

Hi lou

Thanks for your input. I have been looking at the
Illustraton and kinda thinking that I can make one
It may not be original, but it looks as if it will be
hidden anyway
Take care

Doesn't seem too hard to replicate. Might not be exact but who but a totally obsessed fanatic would know. As you stated, there probably aren't many around so unless you parked next to another truck with the factory part no one would know. What are the chances of that happening?

I believe I have one of those brackets, but mine is mounted at the rear of the bed, not the front ...

I'll have to look closer to see if it matches up to the picture of original hardware.

Bob, I was getting ready to ask this same question for my '59. All the catologs I've checked so far don't offer the bracket. I'm going to build one(unless I find one) and now that I've seen the illustration(thanks bobj) I got a better idea of how I want it.

The catalog I have only shows this type of spare tire mount for '57, if that matters. It also shows the under the truck carriers for all of the trucks up to '61.

So all spare tires were mounted in the back
of the truck as showned in the illustration??
Is this Correct?
Thanks

The standard spare tire mounting location is Under the Back of the Bed of the Truck, in between the Rear Axl & the Back Bumper.
