Was there a TSB that fixed a slight power issue at altitude or was that a design change with the 2012's that I'm thinking of?
I could have possibly dreamed up the whole idea since I can't find it.
If it was a flash, could our trucks be running a bit rich?
Engineers would have poured over the programming for this and I'm sitting in a chair at home but if this turns out to be a widespread issue, someone screwed up.
Or the EPA has their fingers in this somewhere...

I'm thinkin the EPA is the reason this thread even exists.
Well well - I am not the lone ranger - mine has more frequent regens than my 6.4. Most trips are 30 miles or more and it regens about every 75 miles - sometimes more, sometimes less. My hand calc. MPG average=17 (LOM = 17.5) with a 3.55. This week I have had to drive it to work - 8 mi. one way - which I usually do not do. Regens have been at 35-40 miles. I will fill up tomorrow and know what MPG will be but LOM says 15.3 right now. I have noticed that the first couple of regens after hard towing are a little over 100 miles but quickly return to normal.
Normal or not - do not know but I do enjoy this truck.
Do these "Drive to Clean" messages start occurring once you have racked up some mileage, 10K+? I have 4700 miles and never seen this message, only "cleaning exhaust filter" once in a great while.

No, drive to clean is when the soot GPL is too high and multiple regens have been unable to get the soot to an acceptable level caused by too many regen cancellations.
An active regen will begin at 2.66 soot GPL but I don't know at what number the "drive to clean" message is displayed.
I've never seen the message on my truck.
Since I know when an AR occurs with the Edge device, I tend to go out of my way to complete them.
This payed off last oil change when Blackstone reported less than 0.5% fuel in oil.
Edit: I guess this would occur more often if there is an issue with the DPF and it's not burning the soot off properly due to age and a fault.
The above is for a normally operating DPF.
Joining the high regen frequency club. There is definitely something amuck since the last TSB. I have had the regen cycle kick in when stopped at a red light. Never had that before. Frequency seems to be every 50-75 miles. Given the soot count increasing so fast and the fact I can "feel" when the truck needs a regen I am going to suggest the need to regen is real. Question is what is causing the DPF to clog up so fast.
Until I got the Edge I thought I was only going into regen about once a tank of fuel; fact is, I was simply missing the message. Harder to know by engine performance, tone, etc. with the 6.7 than it was with the 6.4.
My 6.4 was 350-500 miles between regens; but they lasted longer too. They also still occured when pulling the RV.
Went to lake past weekend; soot level went from 2.60 down to .93 with just passisve regen pulling the 5th wheel. This was running 70 MPH.
Return trip started out running 60 MPH and although the soot level wasn't increasing it was not dropping at any substantial rate either.
Basically once I got the Edge CTS I found I was going into regen about every 110 miles; as low as 75 and as high as 150 are typical.
Most of time regen starts 2.66/2.67 after minute or so; but has waited till 2.70. Ford splash screen is sometimes immediate and sometimes a minute or two later! I have been in process of pushing and holding reset for trip b when regen starts and had the 'cleaning exhaust....' try to pop up and my screen freeze with just the outline of the text box on two occassions. Takes a bunch of coming back to and leaving that screen to get the frozen empty text box to clear
My 5K oil change analysis had 3.5% fuel dilution; the 10K oil change analysis had 2.5% fuel dilution. I made sure all those regens occured on the highway,
I wish FORD would give us a way to manually initiate regen; create a screen that shows soot level with push 'ok' to regen........ at least for those of us that would like to manage same we could.

Reason: correct minimum soot from .94 to .93
The different experiences are very interesting to me.
My Ford message is always 30 seconds (I've never clocked it so give or take a few) after my Edge reports a regen has started.
The only odd behavior I have is sometimes I'll hit 2.66, then it will return to 2.65; 2.66, 2.65 and then may start counting down slowly with EGT4 around 480 degrees but no AR.
When I wanted a regen to start, it irritates me because it will level off within the 2.50's.
If all I'm doing is driving home from work, that means it will want to regen on my way to work the next morning.
Yes, Ford could offer an option to allow more control.
Heck, I would pay a tech a half hour of labor just to enable it!
Anybody with this issue using Rotella T6 oil? My problem didn't seem to start until after I switched from Valvoline Premium Blue Extreme to the Rotella!
Thats what i first thought since i hadnt driven it much since the nox flash but my wife said it was doing it since the flash she drives the truck more than me
I just got my truck back from the Ford dealer. This one one of my issues. Frequent regens since last NOX update. I heard everything from it depends where you buy your fuel to what kind of underwear you wear. (the last part was a joke). The mechanic did say there was a PCM update form my truck. I didnt have time to keep asking questions, I was almost late for a DR appt.
