I just finished my first fresh rebuild on my E40D auto in my 97 F-Superduty. Unfortunately I was under a time constraint and had to give the truck an ultimate test drive for the fresh tranny. I was in the middle of a move during the rebuild with the new destination 400 miles away. Above that, I hauled two vehicles, about 9000lbs of vehicles. I did not want to push the rig this hard for the debute but it did great! It got a little hot going over a large mountain pass but that was my only complaint!
Hot as in coolant temperature or as in EGTs? I am just surprised that you would be able to get the coolant temps up if everything is working as it should be. The coolant systems in these trucks are overkill.
Did you add an aftermarket transmission cooler to the build?
Hot as in tansmission temps. But also coolant temps. I had to pull over to let it cool. It was a very large pass. And I do have an accessory tranny cooler with electric fan. After the pass it was smooth sailing.
I beefed it up some. I installed a tugger kit and a triple disc torque convereter. I will probably do a little more to the valve body. I am happy with it otherwise.
I did actually. Had a scare with the tranny for a moment but was not a big deal. Filling the tranny through the same tube you check the level at can fool you. Still a rookie
