Shock question

I have a 73 F250 highboy (I presume 3" factory lift) 4x4. It had original shocks on it. After researching, and talking directly to manufacturer, I bought a set of ProComp ES9000 series shocks. Front ones mount on studs, rears on eyelets. All good except one thing. Lifted up by frame (full droop), lower eyelets on rear shocks can't be bolted on, because fatness of shock body tube hits the axle. Changing the geometry slightly by coming about 1 or 2" out of full droop allows the shock to be bolted on and clear the axle. With truck on the ground there is plenty (1/8"+) of clearance. So I kept them on, figuring as long as I don't jump the truck with all 4 wheels off the ground this won't be a problem (haha it's really a road truck only).
Did I do a bad thing? I've driven about 100 miles with them on with no problems.
