I have done my disc brake swap on my 1955 f100. Now i have another gremlin in my swap. the brake pad on the driver side inboard wont sit flush to the rotor.when you spin the rotor the brake pad move and makes a clunking noise. there are new calipers and hoses on my swap. the passanger side does not move.
This problem only happened recently. When i bled the brakes all of the caliper worked fine. I think i need to rebleed the front driver side caliper again. I just wanted to get other opinion and if anyone had ever run into this problem
I take it they are the GM calipers? Like reg1952 suggested I would check the clip that snaps on the back of the pad and holds in place to the piston. You might also check that the pins and sliders are free and clean. Were these new calipers, used, or rebuilt? If they were old then you might need to replace the little busihing things that the pins slide into. They are basically a bushing that slides into the tab in the caliper, an "O" ring holds them in place and allows them to move a bit. You should be able to move them back and forth by hand.
sorry to get back to you so late. i was on a mental health week aka vacation.these are ford calipers off a 1970 mustang. they are rebuilt calipers. it seems to only happens on one spot on the rotor. there seems to be low spot on the rotor and the pads on the inboard side move just a little bit causing the small clunking sound. the disc brakes still hold a ton of pressure on the rotor. i am going to run my vacume source and see how it works when i fire up the engine. what do you think?
