I am gathering parts for a 302 swap into a bronco ii, for my transmission i went with an M5OD-R2 from a 95 F150 with a 5L. Just using that transmission puts the shifter to far forward, so it has been suggested to me i swap the top off of a the same transmission, but from one behind a 97 and up 4.2L v6.
So i went to the junkyard, and tomy amazement, they had one. So i got the top and the shifter. Went to swap them today, and it doesnt fit .
So what can i do to get the shifter top to fit on the earlier transmission? It seems the shift fork has nubs that slip over the gear shift rings (dont know correct terminology lol) and the ones on the v6 version are slightly larger.
Wouldn't think so because the different location of the shifter, the notches for the shifter on the shift forks will be different. Compare the two covers next to each other to conform.
The best way would be to swap the syncro collars inside the unit but that's a lot of work and you still might run into a change that may prevent that too. Its always a risk when interchanging parts from one to another.
Maybe machine the forks to make them fit, you just will have to come up with a clever way to do a decent job. I am thinking a nice new grinder wheel and a steady hand.
