Spec/performance differences 74 & 75-77 302?

I was wondering what the specification and/or performance differences are between a 74 302 and a 75-77 302. I have a 74 F100 and it appears that the engine is a 75-77 302. I found out that the spark plugs are smaller on the 75-77 302. Apparently 75-77 was the first year for the smog heads with air pump injection. The carb is a 2150 as opposed to the 2100 for 74 I'm wondering if there's any other differences. Also wondering what a good 2V or 4V head swap would be later down the line if the smog heads aren't that great.

As far as performance advantage of one over the other.............There are none. Both are lo-po, low compression engines. And if it's got the pistons it had from the factory (these had a Grand Canyon sized dish in the top from 1972 to 1976) there's no head that will help it. The cam would have to go as well. There are no 2V-4V differences among the small block Windsor heads, other than the 68 year model, and even there, the 4V head is a recast 289 2V head with a smaller combustion chamber.

Yeah there's not much to endear one to these early motors, so if you're gonna do anything I'd suggest you gather up a late model EFI motor from a '94+ truck or better yet an early Explorer V8('96-97), swap on a 4bbl carb and intake, swap in a bigger roller cam, and put that in place of what you got. Would all that work be worth it? How does DOUBLE the hp you have now sound? But if that were just a little more work/money than what you had in mind then just swapping in the late model truck engine as it is with a the carb on it would still be a hugh step froward, more compression and the factory roller cam make for a peppy engine with at least 50-75 more ponies than what you got now.

Thanks for the info. Our plans are to just fix it up as a putt-around daily driver. Maybe upgrade to to a four barrel carb system and maybe some headers down the road. Just something to tinker around with. The neat part is the truck belonged to a soap-opera star from "One Life To Live", so I can always sell it as soap-opera memorabilia! LOL

The four barrel swap will be a huge waste of time and money on that motor. If you don't like the 2150, then swap it out for a Holley 350 cfm 2 bbl. Headers as well won't do a thing for it.
