Got a 2006 mountaineer that we just bought. Noticed that the compass is reading everything opposite of what it should be. When we are going north it says south, west it say east, going NW it says SE, etc.... I made sure the zone was set correct and followed the directions to recalibrate and it still reads backwards. So is something mounted backwards maybe. is the compass register the thing behind the rear view mirror. there is a thing mounted to the windshield that has two short antennas coming out of it, is that supposed to be there? doesn't really look factory and thought that could mess it up. It's not a huge deal, I pretty much always know what direction I am going and my wife never even looks at the compass, but I would like to get it right if I could. Thanks for any ideas!
never mind guys, just fixed it. The compass register thing was mounted backwards. I just turned it around it was fine. still don't know what the thing with the little antennas is, for remote start maybe. Anyway, compass is fixed.
Glad to hear you got the compass fixed. The dipole antenna sounds like the antenna for an FM alarm system, probably with remote start, and it may even have 2-way paging if you happened to have the remotes for it.
Does the antenna look kind of like the antenna shown here?
yes it does. looks like the antenna on the top(the dipole one). It does have remote start, which is nice, so that must be what that is for. I don't know who would have turned the compass around, might have just fallen off and the po just shoved it back up there.
