Tire Burn Question

The other day, as I was driving my truck home from work, some guy in a friggin Nova pulls up beside me and starts revving his engine. I was tired, so I figured I would leave him be. We got to the next light, and this guy does it again. So I revved my 400, and let him know I wasn't going to take this crap from a Nova. He shoots off again, and I pulled up to him at the next light, and I smoked him like you wouldn't believe. My tires were sreaming for about 6 seconds off the line, but then, when my tranny grabbed a gear at around 55, BOTH tires barked. Why did they do this, and is this normal? I'd appreciate anyone's input. Thanks.

Nova means NO GO in Spanish! In American, it means EAT MY SMOKIN TIRES!

Tire Burn Question

I've never had that happen in a truck but both of my cars will do that. I think it's normal,

Tire Burn Question

That would be the limited slip rear differential. When one side slips the other picks up the slack. sometimes there is a transition where both tires grab. If you have an open differential where power is normally applied to one wheel at a time, sometimes they will both turn when they change between sides, however both tires gotta be spinning. When I peel out its always the passenger side that spins, but when I do brodys in the parking lot both tires spin ferociously. I have an open differential.

Tire Burn Question

Barking the tires on an upshift is caused by the engines momentiom when the trany upshifts the engine RPM lowers but at high RPM and WOT when the trany upshifts the engine doesn't want to slow down as fast as the drivetrain wants it to, so ether the engine slows down or if the tires don't have enuff traction, the momentiom is sent to the tires over powering thier traction and causeing them to spin until the momention is released.
another runon

Tire Burn Question

If I had a limited-slip, wouldn't it burn both tires off the line? Right now I think it only burns one, I'm not sure. To busy looking in my rear view mirror

You can feel it, it sways a little to one side then to the other because the other wheel takes over. If you have a limited slip, then it should take off in a straight line. About the only way to check is to see where the marks are on the line.
I did a great one today, the truck didn't move more than ten feet forward and it lasted about ten real seconds, a friend timed it. Smoked so nice although there is black anti tire matter in the wheel well now, eh ya give and ya take right.

It's a beautiful thing to see those marks and to smell that smoke, because it just assures you that you've taken good care of your Ford, and she'll take good care of you.
