The rheostat in my headlight switch has burnt out. I know I need to replace the whole switch, and can reuse the switch **** and shaft by pulling it out.
My question is this: do I have to remove the plastic gauge cluster surround to actually remove the switch, or can I do so without taking the cluster surround off? I can see how to get to the switch from underneath the dash, but I don't wanna crack the gauge cluster surround.
I'm going off memory here, but I believe you'll have to pull the dash bezel to get to the nut that holds the switch in. It isn't that hard to remove the bezel as long as you take your time and make sure you have all the screws out. Also, make sure you unplug the light that illuminates the headlight and wiper switch labels. You also will have to take the **** off the wiper switch.
I figured it'd be easy to get the dash bezel off after looking at it...The problem is that the previous owner hacked the crap out of the bezel when he installed the CD player...for some reason it sits around 3/4 to 1 inch out from the metal on the bottom right side...I'm just afraid that if I pull it out, that the situation there will get worse. Been trying to figure out a way to fix it. I know I can replace the bezel itself, but that'd require me getting someone else to hack it so the CD player fits in, or buying a new stereo of some sort...Gonna think on this for a bit before I install the new switch.
