I just purchased a '97 F-350 reg cab DRW 5.8L auto for my transport business. It has an 11,000 GVWR and I wanted to know how heavy of a 5th wheel/gooseneck trailer it is rated to tow.
I've seen a chart on here somewhere but my search failed.
Can someone point me in the right direction?
Looks like in the manual it says you can tow 7800 lbs. With a gcvw of 13,000 lbs.
I found and downloaded a copy of the 97 owners manual from ford's website.
Sorry about all the questions, sitting at home recovering from surgery. I dont know if this link is hot or not but this is where i found it for the F250hd/ F350
I was reding in one of the car mags where SAE finally came out with a standard for rating the payload and towing capacity for light duty trucks. Up until the last year or so it was purley a subjective number given to the truck sby the manufacturer. Now there is a mountain pass in the west and the vehicle has to maintain certain speed and acceleration standards at the max gross weight it is given, it alos has braking standards that have to be met at the max weight
When I looked at the chart I was suprised how relatively low the 351W weights are compared to the 460 and diesel

Yeah.. obviously the rolling chassis is more capable.. it gets a 12k trailer rating with the big motors, so the small block powertrain is the limting factor.
Yes, 7,800lbs does sound low, but that is what it is. There are many factors that the factory has to account for when coming up with these numbers
Thanks, This is the chart I was thinking of. And it's a chassis cab so its good to 8,100.
Big deal. Lol

Yeah so I guess I won't have to worry about overloading the chassis, just the tranny IMO.
