I went to the local ford dealership yesterday to get the parts for the dipstick tube because mine well... fell off. i asked him for all the parts for the dipstick tube and the pan attachment. he comes out with the inside part of the adapter and says that they don't have a tube in stock and that they can get me one tomorrow (today).i ask him how this attaches to the pan and he says that if you look at the threads it screws right in.... at this point i new i was in trouble... i ask for a diagram of how it goes together and after about 5 minutes or so he brings one up and it showed the outside nut and the o-ring for the pan i ask him what all of this was for and he looked at me puzzled and came back with the outer nut and said they didn't have the o-ring that it would be here tomorrow with the dipstick tube.... so i pay for the parts and i came back today to get the parts and all the parts were there and anyone that's ever done this before already knows what i'm missing the o-ring that goes on the dipstick tube.... I ask him about it and he says that you reuse the old one.... and i told him that there is a reason why i want all of parts to do this not some of them. so now i have to go back again to get the o-ring that was 5 bucks!!! for a little o-ring can you believe that crap. Note to self stay away from that Ford dealership...
I would be curious to hear which ones you deal with, Jim. I have heard from cornbinder that the dealership in Apple Creek (Dale James Ford) has a guy in the service department that really knows his way around a 7.3, but I don't know anything about their parts department. It would be nice if they know their way around a parts book too since they're close to me. It's just a little place, but they deal a lot in the 7.3 PSD trucks. They seem to have a knack for finding nice ones used.
It was classic ford in mentor... I ended up going to the international dealership in painesville to get the o-ring was 3 bucks with tax and it was the first one and they knew exactly what I needed so next time I won't bother with the ford dealership
Yeah, Classic-Mentor can be fun at times.
You need to go there and give them all the part numbers you need, period. I have a few stories with them myself. Hardest part is knowing where they are. They have moved 2 times in the past 5 years, I think, and are now building another new dealership.
Local parts guy here in Burton (Preston Ford) knows his stuff, I hope he's happy there, great to work with.
Parts guys at Valley are also top notch.
Mullinax not too bad, also helps with them to have part numbers in hand.
Kepich in Garrettsville I hear are good guys (lady) too, but I'm never that far south.
Sorry Nate, I don't get out your way very often to know whose there.
I live in painesville unfortunately haha but it's while I go to school and I can't beat the rent so it's not all bad but I'm goin to school for diesel technology in Cleveland
