Steering Problem
I have a 2008 Ford 250 that I bought in December for my farm. In the last 6 weeks I have been having trouble with the steering and the dealership can't seem to fix this issue because it is intermittent. It only happens once a week or so, for a minute, and then works fine.
It wanders from side to side, and not gently, but a definite shift in direction from side to side about 10 degrees, like there is a ton of play in the steering wheel. It can be pretty scary at higher speeds.
I have had it in twice to the dealer, they replaced a tie rod and a broken drag link. The second time they couldn't find anything wrong, but adjusted the steering. It does feel steadier and tighter steering on the road, not much wander now.
But that is a completely separate issue from the sudden, intermittent change of direction I am still experiencing.
Before I take it back to the dealer for the third time, does anyone have any ideas about why this is happening?

it has happened on a rough dirt road and then a smooth highway at higher speeds, just for a minute or so, and then it goes back to working properly.
They did do an alignment last time it was in after they fixed the broken drag link and tie rod. The tires were new, so it's not likely that they would have a broken belt.

I had the same issues you had but all the time, downright scarey. In my case it was the steering box and bad steering stabilizers(I have 2). I would check the stabilizer first. Take it off and see how easy you can move it in and out. If it moves easy, replace it and take it for a drive. If it still does it, check the trac bar for looseness and report back.

Thanks to all who replied, it has been a while since I posted this, it was fixed! The issue was a seized up ball joint. When I turned a corner it would wobble all over the place until it straightened out, then would seem fine.
