Yeah I had mine in and out of my old '89 a bunch of times. Sometimes the little plastic screw clip things get stripped and they won't back out like they should but I just gently pried up with a small flathead screwdrive and the threads would grab and they would come out no problem. I even reused the bad ones.

Thanks guys. I just wanted to be sure before i went out and bought one. Ive seen the colors they came but it dont matter too me cause im probly gona paint it white anyway to match my visor

The difference is not in the fit, it's how it's painted. The 87-88 were argent for XLT and black for XL. Then in 89 they reversed it, the XLT was black and the XL was argent. The XLT had the chrome accents across the line but the "insides" were painted.
They are for sure interchangeable, I like the argent on an XLT better, so when I bought my former 90 F150 new, I went to the JY and bought an 88 grille for $75 and replaced it.

Mine is option 2 i believe. How do you tell if my 87 is a xl or whatever there are absolutly no badges anywhere thats says what it is. How much for the grill you got. It really dont matter what one i get its getting painted white. Thanks everybody for all the helpful info
