On my 1955 f100 I am putting back the front fender. There is a stud on the fender that acts as a locator. I never had a nut on that bolt. does anyone know the thread size of this stud? Thanks for any information.

Jerryst
shouldn't be a stud.. I had one on one of my fenders.. some WD and a vice grip broke it loose and let me remove it, run a tap thru the hole.
all the stock bolts, are as noted, 5/16 24 fine thread
three each from the inside of the cab
one up from the outside thru the fender wraparound
Now this is interesting, perhaps an assembly plant variation. My '56 had studs in the one position of each side. From what I found, I don't think either fender had ever been off the truck.

hm.. never seen a stud til this last truck. have disassembled 4 that I believe we never modified. this is the 1st 56 tho.. (only one side had it)
I know the truck was disassembled before, and based on the other cootybob hacks done, I 'assumed' this was a prior owner action.
I have seen a few fenders with "studs"...turns out that the bolts were frozen into the anchor nuts in the fender and when the person who disassembled the truck took the bolts out they spun the head off the bolt. Voila, a stud. I have never seen a stud used from the factory, not to say it hadn't ever been done, just that I haven't seen one.
If it is a 5/16-18 instead of a 5/16-24 that could had been a contributing factor to why it may of froze and snapped off at the end. Just about everything on these trucks which is 5/16 is fine tread.
