Starter does not always engage

My '53 F-100 recently became picky about starting. Sometimes the starter engages and other times no noise at all. I rock the truck in gear and it usually engages. I'm still on a 6 volt system. Anyone want to point me in the right direction?

Starter troble

Hello, I had this problem. found out that the you have to remove the starter and clean the corrosion between the end caps and the body of the starter. the body is metal and the caps are allumium. I cleaned mine and it fixed the problem.. Good luuck

Starter does not always engage.

I'm glad I could help. I have a 1952 F6, and it one item at a time. this site has been very helpful for me.. I always sleep better when my truck is running..
