my aplogies in advance, i have searched rear end alignment, dog walk, rear end sway, etc etc and i still havnt found any threads or posts with the issue i have noticed on my truck. There may be something out there, but honestly with only about 30 minutes a day in the office i havnt been able to find it, so i post my question here... i have an 05 F-350 with 3 inch kit on front and 4inch on rear. Rear lift being blocked. I was informed by a friend who had been following me down the road that my truck "dog walks". Meaning it runs down the road with the rear end tailing away slightly... in my case to the right side. After looking closely at my truck both stopped and with someone else driving it with me following, it appears my rear axle is shifted with the left rear side closer to the front of vehicle than right rearl. It is by the slightest of margins, and barely noticeble by sight. End result being the axle is pointed for lack of a better term at an angle that makes the rear end want to drive out to the right while the front end wants to go straight... I am very particular about my vehicle and will admit, that it is neither a safety issue or even anything so bad that compromises function or ability of the truck... it just really bothers me.... Does anyone know of a corrective action for this? It hasnt been wrecked. again, i aplogize if this has been covered somewhere else.. if so i did not find it... Thank you in advance...
first you should remove the rear u-bolts and check the center pin in the rear leaf packs. Its rare but they do break from time to time and could cause your crabbing, after that id check to make sure the block has the pins and make sure they didnt break off. If everything is ok then you might have a spring pad that was welded on incorrectly from the factory, ive read a thread on here before where this has happened and the guy drilled a new center hole to fix the axle. Ill try and find it but this websites search feature sucks.....
Sounds like your front axle was not properly tracked when the lift was installed. Do you have an adjustable track bar? Relocated track bar hanger? With a 3" lift, you need some kind of track bar reposition.
I'm with you, dog walking is something very common on trucks and it bug the hell out of me! It sounds to me u should start where super duty scaler started. You could have a loose u bolt too. Although not a safety hazard, it can prematurely wear u joints
I would look at the track bars. If they weren't properly offset with the lift that could certainly cause some problems. I'm not saying saying that's the money shot but it's something to look at. I'm interested to hear what you find out.
Measure the rear axle to frame on both sides for a refrence. Measure axle to rear spring front bolt also. Most likely centering pin off on rear block. or broke pin.
I was just going to post about the same thing lol. I bought a '99 f250 SD a few months ago with an 8" superlift suspension lift. The kit uses blocks in the rear & leafs in the front. I replaced the rear leafs & all the shocks when I got it home. My truck also dog tracks to the passenger side when it runs down the road. I know all my pins r good & am trying to figure out if there is enuff play in the rear end that a person can loosen things up & adjust a little to line things up. I also think that my u bolts could be loose because it looks like my rear axle is rotating forward a little, especially on the drivers side.
Some dog tracking is normal on roads that have a high crown in the center. Another thing to remember is when the front is lifted, the track bar bracket needs to be moved too or the front axle will shift to the left, giving the off center look of the axles.
