Squeaking when in first/reverse when using clutch
My ranger has started squeaking (it sounds like metal on metal) when I'm using the clutch in first or reverse to move from a stop. It seems to be worse if I'm overrevving the engine. It doesn't do it in neutral, and doesn't do it when not under load (I jacked up the rear end and went into first/reverse, no noises).
I've eliminated any belt related issues, and brakes are all good/not dragging. U joints are also good.
The original transmission in my truck was replaced about 10k miles ago because someone learned to drive manual on it and fried the synchros for second gear; I put in a junkyard transmission with new slave cylinder 10k miles ago (left clutch alone, there was little wear on the disc and pressure plate). The squeak started in the last month; it goes away after driving for awhile...by the time I get to work (8 miles) it won't squeak when moving in first/reverse from a stop.
Is this the throwout bearing, even though the slave is 10k miles old and i drive mainly highway? Is it going to fail dramatically or will I keep getting worse symptoms?
