Engine rebuilding virgin.
Engine rebuilding virgin.
I picked up a 1960 F100 with a 460 as my first major restoration project. I've learned a bunch already thanks to these forums. I've got the engine all torned down and about to get a bath and inspection at a machine shop. The truck has been sitting for the last 4-5 years, but from the looks of it the engine was rebuilt not too long before that. It was extremely clean on the inside and bored over 0.030".
I'm getting ready to put an order in for parts, but wanted to run it by the experts on here first to see if I'm missing anything, or if there are any recommendations for different parts and/or brands to use.
What I'm ordering so far:
Holley 750cfm
Weiand Stealth intake
Fel-Pro gasket kit
dowel and plug kit
piston rings
cam bearings
rod bearings
main bearings
comp cam camshaft/lifters kit (still nto sure which yet)
comp cam valve springs
replacement main and head bolts
fuel pump
water pump
pre-72 timing chain
Parts I'm re-using:
stock crank
pistons and rods
pushrods
rocker arms
heads (D8VE)
oil pump and pickup
Is there anything I'm not thinking about? Also, any recommendation on cam specs and brands for bearings/rings? Truck has stock 3.7:1 gears, C6 transmission.
Many thanks for your patience in helping a newbie out!

Main studs and head studs are overkill and not necessary in a basic build such as yours. There has been some debate on the use of main studs with 460 engines regarding"cap walk"and ruined bearings.Look at 460ford.com.Just get a good set of head and main bolts and spend the extra cash on an adjustable rocker arm set up for the D3VE heads and maybe port the heads as well.Lots of info on the site I mentionned.Cam selection has many variables.Anything over .530 lift requires adjustability in the valvetrain.Head porting is needed for power increase. Why else would you choose a 460 except for MORE POWER.+ 1 on the timingchain.Make sure you get a pre 1972 style.I went with a Cloyes double roller 1122.
Scratch that. It was only giving me post-72 when looking at Ford 460, but Lincoln 460 gave me two of them.

I know, however Summit was only showing me post-72 timing chain sets when selecting the 460 under Ford (The set I posted above wasn't listed), but when I selected the 460 under Lincoln, it gave me pre-72 timing chains. Weird.
That is kinda funky lol. But I think on some of those timing chains you can retard/advance hem up to 4 degrees, so you can advance them and itll be the same as 0. But im not sure if its 0 from the factory or not
