Electric fan vs. regular fan

I have a 96 e-250 hd with a 300i6 w/c6 and was wondering how much fuel savingsand power increase that i could expect, if any, if i were to remove the standard fan and installed an electric fan on the radiator. Any help would be appreciated because this is i my work truck and put a lot of miles and load on it. Thanks

Electric fan vs. regular fan

I opted for a clutch fan, and while I KNOW it takes less power to spin it, I barely noticed - power or mpgs. A bit more staying power on a long hill. Maybe the electric fans are better... in either case, it puts less strain on the engine - even if it is a tiny amount.

Electric fan vs. regular fan

I thought the newer 300's came with electric fans. My bad.

Anyhow. Generally around 10-15hp (optimistically) depending on the fan. And remember, the alternator is going to start doing alot of the work. You might try a flex fan if you don't fance the alternator doing a little more work (or if you don't think it handle it alright)

Edit:Although if you have a clutch driven fan, you probably won't notice the difference at higher speeds. The clutch disengages the fan at higher speeds.

Electric fan vs. regular fan

I took my fan completely off at the track one night and gained absolutely nothing. The 300 doesn't spin fast enough to make the fan a large parasitic loss, and the fans are pretty light compared to some more modern designs so their moment of inertia is low. The fan and clutch on my Lightning weighs 12 lbs, so it will be getting replaced with an E-fan ASAP. The fan on a 300 is maybe 2-3 lbs.
