I have a 99 Explorer XLS with a strange problem I've never experienced before.
When I get in and use key fob to unlock doors I have no problems til I stop and shut it off. After I shut it off if I don't hit the unlock on the fob it will not start, like it kills ignition circuit. As long as I hit unlock on fob it always works fine. Not really a major issue, more of a pain in the ---.
Anybody have this issue before. I would really like to figure this one out.
Thank you in advance for any help you may offer.
Interesting. I really expected you to say that you have an aftermarket security system. Actually, maybe you do and it's still set for active arming. When you don't hit "unlock" on the OEM fob the aftermarket system gets confused and opens the starter interrupt relay.
You might consider pulling the knee panel under the steering column and inspecting carefully for wires and looms that don't appear to be factory.
