I put in a Clarion touch screen in my Super Duty. I plug my iPod into the aux jack in the front for music. The aux jack on the deck has a short. I tried a new wire and my iPhone and it still does it so I assume it's the jack. It will only play on my left speakers. Anyone have a quick fix for this or is the unit going to have to be cracked open and soldered?
If the jack on the deck has a short than another wire won't help. Or were you guessing it has a short? Do you have anything other than an Apple product to plug in? Wondering if there's something goofy with their plugs (although that end of the plug shouldn't be proprietary).
I'm pretty sure it's the jack input. I tried a different wire already. I only have Apple things to test but it used to work when it was new. Just lately it stopped.
5% chance you can actually fix this without a degree in elec engineering...
40% chance something new will get damaged in the process...
80% chance it'll never get reassembled properly...
99% chance you'll want to throw it out the window...
Otherwise nothing to lose by trying I guess
Seriously, that jack is probably tucked in behind 20 other things & impossible to get at. The common malfunction are the friction terminals inside it, the whole assembly has to be replaced on the board. Assuming you can find the right part.
