My best friend bought a 01 SD 250 4 door 4x4 7.3 from a farmer for $2000 with a dusted motor. The farmer just had the trans rebuilt 1500 miles ago before it died. Brett had the motor rebuilt, The truck painted and cleaned out the 3 inch's of dirt on the inside. The guy who built the motor talked him in to installing stage 1 injectors. I don't know what type or brand. They bought all new parts including the Hpop and turbo.
Now he wishes he had bought a T500 and 38 gtr.
The truck runs great and he is now starting the MOD phase..
He installed a 6637 air filter first. Then i told him to get gauges, exhaust then a DP tuner. And with him having stage 1 injectors i told him to call jodi and talk with him about setting his truck up. I also told him he may want to talk with clay about upgrading the Hpop for the injectors before installing the tuner. He bought an MBRP 4" turbo back exhaust last week and was dieing to install it. I said gauges first would be better but he wanted it on, So today we installed it.
His truck did not have a muffler on it. After we pulled the exhaust out i had to laugh and he asked why.
Who ever pulled the muffler off welded in a 2 1/2 inch pipe in place.
I told him on his 2 hour drive back home, pay attention to how the truck is running.
He called me after he got home and said his truck flew up the grapvine like never before.. I said i bet now that the exhaust can breath.
Glad your best friend has you to help him with doing the mods the right way. I wouldn't change out the HPOP unless it is bad. I'm still running the stock HPOP in my truck with my mods and it is keeping up fine. I would think they put split shot injectors instead of single shot injectors in his engine because he don't seem to have custom tunes.
