I've been having frequent, low speed, short trips lately and have been seeing the 'Cleaning Exhaust Filter' message pop up. Given that I have only been mere minutes from my destination in each case, I thought 'good luck with that'.
Today I see the 'Drive to Clean' message, followed by the 'Cleaning Exhaust Filter' message which stayed on (I have been used to it appearing for only a second or two.)
It should all be fine tomorrow though as I have a longer trip planned.
Yes. Just got done reviewing the manual. The reason the 'Cleaning Exhaust Filter' appears (and stays on) after the 'Drive to Clean' message is displayed is to inform the operator that the necessary conditions are present to support DPF regeneration.
Said another way the "Drive to Clean" message is a result of incomplete regens that don't get the opportunity to completely clean the DPF. This message is to alert the driver to drive to clean before the DPF gets clogged beyond regen cleaning capability.
I recently went on a 300 mile trip 99% hiway 95% of the time spent in 6th gear. I went to drive back home another 300mile trip and shortly after i fired it up it said cleaning exhaust filter.
Never did it come on during the trip up nor did it come back on the way home. It definitely got nice and hot coming during its trip. Weird..
