It cannot be ANY sensor. There is nothing electrical that can do this. Something mechanical broke.
Not true. My '97 used to do this to me, something with the speedo in the dash. always happened when I left work and drove slow for 5-6 blocks, all of a sudden it would just stop going forward, you could rev and rev and go nowhere. slam your hand on the dash and bang, away we would go, a bad ICP conection will cause poor shifts, as will a bad Rear ABS signal.
I also had a PCM in my reg cab constantly throw codes, flash the O/D Off light and shift poorly if at all. I finaly figured out it was the PCM when I swapped with a different truck, that PCM is now in a 5-speed truck.....

Yes they will, but they will not cause no engagement. What you saw was different, you were moving. When the PSOM on the back of the dash had a problem the PCM thought you were stopped and shifted the trans to first gear. Since there is no engine braking in that condition it feels just like neutral. It's different when the truck isn't moving, no matter what the speed signal says the trans should go into gear. If it doesn't something mechanical is broken.
Well I was moving when it went bad whatever it was no grinding noise no metal noise was climbing a hill and the rpm's shot up and I started rolling backward. Like I said it was like I dropped a driveshaft. Weird
My buddy had the forward planet split in his old idi e4od...pulled up to a stop sign.when he tried to go...just NOTHING! Never made a noise or anything.not that, that is your problem but it can happen.
Have you tried 4wd? Could eliminate the transfer case out put back as problem.
Well, that stinks.where are you? Any dependable trans rebuild shops? I have a guy here that is very good.i used to work with him at a trans shop a long time ago.im lucky to have him close .he bails me out if i cant fix it myself.haha
Yeah there is a good shop here but they don't work for free. I am in Parkersburg wv. I aint putting much in it like I said I'll sell as is and buy something else. I aint married to it
I could just throw parts at it to find out it is the tranny and at that time have 4k wrapped up in it with the purchase of a new tranny. I can get a beater for less than that
Not to throw something odd out there, but when my TC (transfer case) went in my old truck, it did this same thing. I managed to get it into low range and it moved then.
Just a thought if the chain broke in the transfer case.
Yeah I appreciate ya thinking and trying to help I was just answering the question. It is a automatic. Main reason I was gonna not try to throw much at it is bc I want a manual so sell it and buy a beater with a stick in it
