sorry for any confusion I meant to say that the last generation of 7.3 PS would be easier to break 500hp barrier vs the OBS, not that you could not crack 500 with a OBS
Why would it be easier? Except for adding IC, you still have to upgrade the same parts.

Check mate.
He might have thought 500hp lots of SDs make it to...because you have so many people buying a fancy tuner. Putting some gauges and lights all over the truck and rolling coal making it look like they put out crazy numbers.
Yet never have a dyno sheet to prove it.
Now that Ive read up enough on PSDs I notice it more. People saying "well from the factory she has 275... I put an intake and exhaust and chip and shes up to about 450"
Changing subjects here a bit, but I was wondering what you guys thought of Banks stuff. Are they like Fram or k&n with their marketing or are they legit? Just curious.
Most of us avoid the banks stuff. IC is a good item but way too expensive. DIY a lot cheaper. The rest, there are better choices.
As far as making 500 hp, I'd say its much easier with an obs truck. The superdutys after sometime in 2000 have the powder forged connecting rods, cheaper and not as strong. In order to make those hp numbers, a complete bottom end rebuild should be done first.

true enough, my apologizes, I am still trying to educate myself on the 7.3l's, even with its rather short lifespan. but that is one of the reasons I joined this site.

We are all here to learn. These guys will get you where you want to be. FTE FTW!
Don't worry about PMR's. They used all forged connecting rods in the OBS 7.3's. You only had to worry about the PMRs in the later 7.3's in the Super Duty trucks (I want to say 2001 and newer, but don't quote me on that).

Ah I gotcha. My buddys truck (well he just sold it...) was an 03 7.3 with so much done to it. it dyno'd like 530 IIRC, but he said the top end of the motor was rebuilt. I dont recall him saying the bottom end being re-done.
Just the springs and valves and such.
