I've gone through all the instructions (including Guzzle's and the Ford Manual Specs) for filling the transfer case and they all say the transfer case takes two (2) quarts.
I just popped the drain on the transfer case and refilled with two (2) quarts of Mobil 1 synthetic ATF fluid and 4oz of ProLong Engine Treatment and the fluid didn't reach the bottom of the fill hole.
Should I go get another quart of ATF or should I just leave it as is?
I would fill it untill it runs out. Put the plug on and call it good. What is that (Prolong engine treatment)? I never seen where it is said to put that in there.
I wouldnt have put it in.
First of all, its an ENGINE treatment fluid. You mixed it with transmission fluid not engine oil.
Second its an ENGINE treatment fluid. You put it in a transfer case.
Third its recommended by Bill Hewitt.
What's the issue with Bill Hewitt? His videos seem informative.
Early on he was able to control himself and put out some good info. Then he became too much of an alarmist about potential problems, especially if he had something to sell that would help alleviate the fear he hoped he had instilled in you. JMHO
Did you ever see the video where he uses a volcano to draw an analogy between it and a cooling system gone bad. That on is a side splitter.
You think that volcano was something Robin??? If you start with this stuff again you'll get to see a volcano "up close and personal", if you know what I mean...and I think you do!

Been there, done that, haven't we. By "we" I mean FTE.

He's a business man, not a friend. He will do what it takes to sell you something, even if that means lying. The foundation of most of his videos is true, but the way he presents it is the problem. He down plays real problems and up sells the ones he can make money from. Also, shoddy mechanics make me not trust him.
This experience just went from good to bad. The fill plug will now only go in 1/2 way. I can torque it but I'm guessing that wouldn't be a good idea. I WOULD GREATLY APPRECIATE SUGGESTIONS.
The threads on the plug and the case don't appear cross threaded, but I'm not positive.
I put some thread sealant on the plug when I first refilled the TC which made the plug a bit difficult to remove, but I don't see any residue on the plug.
I'd take a small wire wheel to the threads on the plug just to be sure and also check the threads on the case for any residue or damage. The case is aluminum, so its easy to mess up the threads. Does it look like its going in straight??
