No itll do it without the trailer too. Its just after "reset" it (disconnect and reconnect battery) it may be later that day or next day or a couple days before it starts to act up but when I hitch up the trailer and plug in the wires I get the overdrive light flashing as soon as I put it into gear.
I clean the connectors you mentioned and took a look at my trailer harness tonite. The previous owner had spliced a 4 plug harness into the factory 7 plug then cut it off without taping up the wires so I cleaned it up and shrink wrapped the harness.
My abs light is still on so the source of that isn't from the plugs it seems. However I drove the truck to and from work today (about 50 miles) without a problem and I was trying to give it a little hell to see if it would act up and maybe give me another clue but nothing went wrong. I'll keep posted if anything happens.
EPC is the Electronic Pressure Control, it is a duty cycle solenoid and regulates the line pressure to adjust for engine torque. If it won't go into 4th (OD) then there may be another problem internally.
Well I almost made it a whole week..... It's been shifting perfectly fine all week until tonight. I was cruising down a country road at 60mph when I came up on a curve that was a little tighter than I had thought. I hit the brakes pretty hard and the trans jammed down into first gear real hard and gave me the code again and the same symptoms as before. Just like before I stopped disconnected the battery and reconnected it and made it home without a problem. I'm confused as to why it would come about the way it did tonight but I have a strong feeling it's a lack of voltage in one way or another, based on how the problem stays away longer everytime I repair a broken wire or clean a electrical connector. What do you guys think???

This visual check doesn't guarantee that the ECM will still be functioning correctly even if it passes the your visual inspection, but, if you see that the capacitors on the circuit board have leaked you do infact have an ECM that is either failing or has failed.
hey guys its been a couple weeks of me messing around with this...... iv gone through just about every electrical component of this transmission and everything seems fine. iv been resetting the code and driving around to see if theres a trend in when it goes into limp mode. the last half dozen times the light has started flashing when im cruising in overdrive. the RPMs will flinch and the light will start flashing. sooo it appears to be slipping in over drive (the only code im getting is a trans slip code, p1728) so it appears iv found the source of my problem.
iv decided to give in and take my truck to Ford this week, but i was wondering if anyone had any suggestions before i do..... thanks
I'd perspnally take it to a tranny shop before the dealer. Most stuff the dealer sees with trannys would be newer stuff (unless they have a seasoned tech). The tranny shop might see more of the older stuff and have a cheaper rate then the stealer
