Well, I just started having fits with my 94' 5.8L. The speedo and odometer stopped working. At the same time the transmission doesn't want to shift at normal RPMs. It requires me to nearly hit 4000rpms before it will shift into 2nd and 3rd. The shifts are hard and abrupt as well. I assume that this is sensor related, but I am not getting a check engine light.
Hey bud,
You are in luck, I happen to own the same year and engine Bronco, and on top of that I had the same problem; the good news is that I fix it my self for only twenty bucks. All you got to do is go to the dealer and ask for the rear wheel or axle antilock brake speed sensor, this sensor is located on top of the housing in the middle of the rear axle; is hold in place by one bolt. change it and hit the road ( or off-road)...
$23 speed sensor from Kragen Auto and it seem to be running better then ever. ABS light went out right away , speedometer working, never shifted so smoothly. Do these sensors degrade over time or do they either work or don't?
Thanks
They collect metal shavings from the oil in the diff because they're magnetic, and over time, they can develop a strong enough field that they don't work right. It happens slowly.
