I have a 93 Bronco with 302, my fuel pump was acting crazy one day so I held the RPM at about 1500-2000 and pulled in gear. Ever since speedo not working. Changed speed sensor in the rearend and still nothing. So my question is any of yuns have the problem fixer for me? One more thing when I first start in morning idles like crap, and does the same thing in reverse like it is surging and sometimes it dies. Any tips or fixes would be great thanx guys. E40OD
If it's not the fuse, it's probably the speedo head. The module in the head is called a PSOM (programmable speedometer odometer module), and if it isn't working the tranny goes into failsafe mode, which will destroy it pretty quickly if you keep driving it. If everything is plugged in, the VSS is good, and the fuses are good, junkyard a cluster. Same thing happened to my Bronco a little over a year ago. I think I paid $80-100 for a complete deluxe cluster. After you install the new cluster, be sure to recalibrate it for your vehicle. There's a good tech article on this site about how to do it. It only takes about 3 mins to recalibrate. The hardest part is taking the ^!@@% old cluster out.
O yeah, try to remember what the odometer reading was right before the unit died. That way, you'll have a reference since there's no way I've figured out to reprogram the odo in the new head. I have to add 75k to figure out how many miles are on it every time... If anybody knows how to reprogram the odometer, I'm all ears. I doubt it can be done, however.
